Michael DeBakey
Michael DeBakey, (tam adı: Michael Ellis DeBakey), (d. 7 Eylül 1908, Louisiana - ö. 11 Temmuz 2008, Houston), ABD'li kalp cerrahı.
Michael DeBakey, New Orleans'taki Tulane Üniversitesi'nden tıp doktoru olarak mezun oldu. Fransa'da Strasbourg Üniversitesi ve Almanya'da Heidelberg Üniversitesi'nde master ve doktora eğitimlerini tamamladı. Askerlik görevini Kore Savaşı'nda "Mobile Army Surgical Hospital"'de (MASH) yapan ünlü kalp cerrahı DeBakey; Amerikan Ulusal Sağlık Enstitüsü'nde üç yıl başkanlık yaptı.
Mesleğinin büyük bir bölümünü Houston'da Methodist Hastanesi'nde geçirdi. Dünyanın birçok ülke liderini ameliyat etti. Ameliyat ettiği liderler arasında Turgut Özal, Boris Yeltsin, Lech Walesa gibi isimler bulunuyor.
Doktor Michael DeBakey, ününü, "hocam" dediği Rus doktor Vladimir Demihov'un çalışmalarını izleyip geliştirerek baypas (by-pass) yöntemini ilerletmesi ve yapay kalp pompalarının öncülüğünü yapmasına borçludur.
